InMobi, the global mobile advertising network that sports over 340 million users in more than 160 countries, announced today that it’s secured an enormous round of funding in the amount of $200M from Japan’s Softbank.

The company will receive a total of $100M this month and receive the additional $100M in April of next year.  InMobi just launched in the U.S. and Europe early last year and received roughly $15M in initial investment from Sherpalo Ventures and Kleiner Perkins.    In a relatively short period of time, InMobi’s network has grown to include 340 million users spread across 160 countries and handles approximately 44 billion ads each and every month.

The company said it intends to use the funds to build better technologies and expand on the success it’s seen in areas like the U.S. and Europe in new markets like China and South Korea.  “The size of the investment and quality of investor validate the enormous potential in mobile today,” said InMobi founder and chief executive Naveen Tewari.  “With a global leader like Softbank behind us, we are now well positioned to fully capitalize on the opportunity before us through substantially increased product innovation, deeper market penetration, and acquisitions,” he added.
