With 2013 now in the history books, it’s clear which aspects of the year in mobile also made history.
Mobile ad spending climbed just over 100 percent year-over-year in 2013, according to a new report from eMarketer.
The latest estimates suggest that mobile ad spending will increase by another 62 percent in 2014, reaching $29.4 billion in the process.
Citing data from Millennial Media, the pharma industry “upped mobile ad spending by 744% in Q3 2013 compared to the same period a year earlier.
Meanwhile, the news industry more than sextupled spending, while sports advertisers increased campaign spend by 411%.
The No. 1 goal of mobile ad campaigns worldwide in Q3 “was to increase mobile traffic to a site, chosen by 34% of respondents,” eMarketer reports. “One-quarter were looking for a sustained mobile presence, and 22% were trying to drive brand awareness.”
