On Thursday, Millennial Media released its latest Mobile Mix Report, examining the top mobile devices and their corresponding operating systems.

While few shockers are contained within, history has been made with today’s report. For the first time ever in a Mobile Mix report, all mobile devices listed in the “Top 20” are smartphones.

Impressively, Android can boast 16 of the top 20 in April, 2011.

“While consumers are driving smartphones into the market,” says Mack McKelvey, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Millennial Media, “we still saw nearly a third of our total impressions coming from connected devices and feature phones.”

She’s not kidding. Impressions on connected devices (non-phones like the iPad, iPod Touch, Samsung Galaxy Tab, etc.) grew 200% from Q4 2010 to Q1 2011.

Not surprisingly, however, smartphone impressions still surged substantially during the last year, ballooning by 51% since April 2010.

Overall iOS impressions have increased 47% since January. In the same time, Android impressions have grown by 19%.

Revenue generated from applications on the iOS platform grew 6% month-over-month and represented 50% of the Application Platform Mix on Millennial’s network, ranked by revenue, in April. Gaming applications also maintained the number one spot as the leading Application Category on the network, representing 32% of the application impressions in April.

But when it comes to the king of smartphone manufacturers, Apple gets the grand prize by capturing almost 34% of the market share. Samsung placed second with a distant 15.58%

Android, however, maintained its position as the leading Smartphone OS on Millennial’s network for the fifth consecutive month, and increased impression share by 10% month-over-month. Android now has a 53% share. Regardless, Apple is still hanging tough in the mobile OS market, retaining 28%.
