On Thursday, Millennial Media released its long-awaited and eagerly-anticipated Year-in-Review Mobile Mix Report.
The venerable independent mobile advertising company and data platform provider shared some powerful and profound insights into the bygone year in mobile – a portrait that also paints a telling picture of what’s to come in 2012.
Among the standout findings of the report are:
- In 2011 Android had a 47 percent share of device OS impressions, while iOS had a 33 percent share. In 2010, iOS had the top spot with a 41 percent share, while Android made up 30 percent.
- Android impressions grew 504 percent year-over-year.
- Apple was the top manufacturer on Millennial’s platform in 2011 and the iPhone was the top individual mobile phone. Both were also on top in 2010.
- In 2010, the top feature phone on Millennial’s platform was number 4 overall on their list of the top 20 mobile phones. In 2011, the top feature phone was number 16 on the list.
- HTC grew 79 percent year-over-year and was the number 3 manufacturer on the platform in 2011.
- Impressions that came over a Wi-Fi network grew 21 percent year-over-year, and made up 27 percent of all impressions on Millennial’s platform.
- According to iSuppli, the number of tablet shipments more than tripled year-over-year, and is expected to continue doubling every year for the next four years.
