Microsoft’s Bing Gaining Ground on Google in Search Market

Bing is banking on continued growth in the search market throughout 2011. And Microsoft has good reason to believe its answer to Google will keep up the rapid pace at which users are embracing the upstart search engine.

According to the latest data from Experian Hitwise, Microsoft now controls 30% of the entire search market, a development that primarily eats into Google’s dominant share of that same market.

Specifically, for the month of March, Bing captured 14.32% of the search market and Yahoo Search (powered by Bing) claims another 15.69%.

Google searches, meanwhile, tumbled 3% from last month, falling beneath 65% for the first time.

As recently as August 2010, Google still controlled close to three-quarters of the US search market.

Although Microsoft executives have been touting the runaway growth and momentum of its search muscle in recent months, the latest data from Experian Hitwise is the first independent research entity to validate the claims put forward by the tech giant.
