Microsoft Thinks Pink for New Smartphone

The veritable “Big Foot” of the mobile phone community – that which is rumored to exist but has not yet been seen – has finally emerged in broad daylight.

Overnight, photos surfaced on the web of the smartphone that Microsoft has reportedly been working on under the radar. The device – tentatively codenamed “Pink” will likely run on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile platform. Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal reported that Microsoft and Verizon would introduce the new iPhone rival (manufactured by Sharp) in early 2010.

What is truly significant about this development – despite the obvious fact that Microsoft is rolling out a major competitor for the iPhone – is that mobile marketers will have a whole new audience to potentially reach. If reports are true that “Pink” will be introduced along with its own unique and expansive app store, this device could ultimately prove a great friend to the mobile marketing community.

For now, we don’t have much to go on. But the photos suggest something big will soon be rolled out from Microsoft.
