Microsoft Office for Android, iOS Not Coming Until 2014

Microsoft will finally bring its Office suite to today’s leading mobile phones and tablets…. but it’s still going to be a little while longer before we can enjoy this roll-out.

A new report indicates that the software won’t reach our iOS and Android devices until next year.

An alleged roadmap for Microsoft’s coming ‘Gemini’ wave of Office updates, if accurate, indicates Microsoft’s Office for iOS and Android… may be further away than many hoped and expected.

Mary Jo Foley, writing for ZDNet, says her sources indicate that Microsoft for Android and iOS devices won’t arrive before fall 2014.

“Rumors about Microsoft’s plans to deliver Office for iOS and Android have been circulating for more than a year,” Foley observes. “Microsoft officials have never outright denied these apps were in development. A number of us Microsoft watchers heard from our various sources that these apps were on track to be delivered by early- to mid-2013.”

“One app that seemingly won’t be part of the spring 2014 update,” she adds, is Outlook RT.

“It appears Microsoft may be holding back the Outlook RT application until the fall (October) of 2014 for some reason — despite the fact that this app is in the midst of being tested privately, both inside and outside Microsoft,” Foley says.

Do you believe its a smart move by Microsoft to delay the launch of its Office suite for Android and iOS by another year?
