SXSW, one of the largest and most eagerly anticipated annual festivals in the world, is putting medical technology in the spotlight next year.
According to Austin’s Business Journal, the annual South By Southwest convention is adding a new medical technology track of programming to the SXSW Interactive side of its spring festival which will be held next March.
The SX Health and MedTech Expo will be based out of the new JW Marriott Hotel will feature more than 40 panels and presentations and 60 exhibiting companies from around the world. Sessions for the health technology track will focus on areas such as 3-D bioprinting, biometrics and identity, the economic potential of the digital health industry, and the use of big data for health purposes.
The conference and expo will be open to SXSW Interactive badges as well as gold and platinum badges.
As the University of Texas constructs the Dell Media School, there is increasing interest in the business potential of the medical technology industry.
The Dell Media School is expected to become a hub of healthcare research and business innovation, and groups such as the Austin Technology Council have held events focusing on the local players in that area.
