Will Facebook finally introduce its own branded smartphone in the near future?
Despite what the rumor mill likes to perpetually suggest, the answer is still no. And that comes straight from the top.
When asked by Michael Arrington at TechCrunch Disrupt if he plans to enter the smartphone arena, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said such a product doesn’t seem to make sense for his company at this time.
“It doesn’t move the needle for us,” Zuckerberg said in response to the inquiry, adding that Facebook wouldn’t likely attract a large enough segment of buyers to warrant such a venture.
Moreover, Zuckerberg said, a phone runs counter to the company’s strategy of being available on every major device.
“We want to build a system which is as deeply as possible integrated into every major device people want to use,” Zucker said, according to CNET.
