Major Yahoo Acquisitions May Be ‘Imminent’

Yahoo may be on the verge of getting back into the headlines for reasons other than a heated debate on the virtues or vices of telecommuting.

Yahoo’s Jackie Reses – head of HR and mergers and acquisitions – has reportedly notified her team that the company has two large acquisition deals on the table.

Kara Swisher of AllThingsD has been privy to insider chatter among Yahoo employees who claim a slate of acquisitions are on the way, two of which are “significant.”

“It would be bold if [CEO Marissa] Mayer went all out and made a mega-buy that would shake up the competitive landscape,” Swisher writes. “My first choice for that is Pinterest, the scrapbooking phenom that was just valued at $2.5 billion in a new funding round. Mayer has also shown a lot of interest in blogging superstar Tumblr, while at both Google and Yahoo, as well as Foursquare, the well-known location app.”

Other potential “big gets” named by Swisher include Hulu, Millennial Media, Jumptap, Quora, Flipboard, and Rubicon.

As of this publication, it isn’t clear how soon an announcement will be made, but it sounds like confirmation of one or more deals is imminent.
