NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim says production of Apple’s next-generation iPad mini is imminent.
“We should see the start of mass production of the panels in June or July,” Shim reveals in a new interview. “Samsung is currently not in the iPad Mini and they won’t be in the next generation. LGD is becoming a much bigger supplier than before.”
The 7.9-inch Retina iPad Mini will have a resolution of 2,048×1,536, Shim said. That gives it roughly the same PPI (pixels per inch) as the Retina screen on the iPhone 5…
Although the next iPad mini will deliver one of the highest tablet resolutions to date, it’s going to become increasingly harder for Apple to stand out in a crowded field of quality tablet displays.
“We’re going to start to see a bunch of tablets [coming out] with a pixel density over 300. At a certain point it will be hard to discern that improved image quality,” Shim added.
