One week ago, speculation mounted that Apple was on the verge of unveiling a new service called “iTunes Replay,” an offering that would would give users the option to re-download and stream movies and television programs that they purchased and downloaded through the iTunes store.
The rumor mill kicked into high gear following Apple’s release of a new Apple TV software update that made it possible for users to re-download television programs that they had already purchased.
At the time, however, movie re-downloads weren’t included. And they probably won’t be included any time soon.
It appears that Apple has run into no shortage of issues when it comes to convincing Hollywood film studios to play nice and get with the program.
According to sources cited by CNET, Apple “has yet to sign cloud agreements for feature films with at least four of the top six film studios, according to multiple film industry sources.”
Naturally, Apple isn’t about to go quietly into the good night. The Cupertino, California-based tech giant remains engaged in talks across Hollywood, further underscoring hopes that the company will land deals sooner rather than later.
