Android has knocked out iOS in the homestretch of 2013.
According to the latest industry data reported by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, the majority of smartphones sold in the United States late last year were Android devices.
During the three month period ending November 2013, Android devices were the hottest commodities in the smartphone market despite the freshly released iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.
Android claimed 50.3 percent of all smartphones sold, with iOS captured 43.1 percent.
Although Windows Phone almost doubled its share to 4.7 percent, BlackBerry’s share fell to a mere 0.6 percent.
“The iPhone 5S and 5C were the two bestselling smartphones in the US for the three months ending November 2013,” says Kantar global strategic insight director Dominic Sunnebo. “However, increased rivalry from Android brands and a resurgence of LG and Nokia has made year-on-year share gains for Apple difficult.”
