With Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest reigning supreme in the world of social media, it is hard to imagine that there is a room for another social media platform to compete—however, that is just what the 2 year old We Heart It, image sharing site is doing—leaving many to think it may just be the next best thing in social media!
While the site came to the US in 2011, it was developed organically by a Brazilian designer who began collecting images of inspiration and posting them to his site online. Now incorporated, We Hear It is a San Francisco based social network that has 18 employees.
What has many speculating that We Heart It may be the next big thing is social media, is that they have over 25 million users, and they are growing at a rate of about 1 million each month—and this is all since We Heart It released their first press release in June of 2013.
80% of We Heart It users are under the age of 24, most of which access the site on their mobile devices—which is drastically different from the sites most fierce social media competition Pinterest.
That combined with the fact that many teenagers are leaving behind social media platforms such as Facebook for younger and more individualized social media—We Heart It is gaining in recognition at record speed.
“This younger user base, and the types of content that come with it, are what separate We Heart It and Pinterest, two otherwise similar platforms.” says We Heart It CEO, Ranah Edelin
With their fast paced growth, We Heart It is securing new partnerships with artists, celebrities, Teen Vogue and Lucky magazine just to name a few— and is securing millions from investors who believe in the platform.
