Is Samsung Losing Major Tablet Component Business?

Samsung may pay a heavy price for its ongoing legal showdown with Apple.

As the trial between the warring tech superpowers resumed today, word broke from the Asian supply chain that Apple is dramatically cutting its reliance upon Samsung for shipments of iPad panels.

“As Apple is revising the new iPad and plans to launch a new version of iPad, the vendor is expected to adjust inventory level of iPad panels, with shipments decreasing in July and August and then increasing in September,” sources tell Digitimes.

A total of 19.5 million panels for the iPad 2 and new iPad will be shipped in third-quarter 2012, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

Those in the know confess that Apple is redirecting orders for iPad panels away from Samsung and to LG and Sharp.
