Upstart mobile carrier FreedomPop is getting aboard the Apple train with its plan to carry the iPhone and offer an array of low-cost or free plans.
“This is going to be a big step for us,” CEO Stephen Stokols is quoted by Re/Code. Since last fall, FreedomPop’s service was limited to older Android models.
The company will offer “like-new” refurbished iPhone 5 handsets directly for $349, while customers can also bring their own Sprint-compatible iPhone 4, 4s or iPhone 5.
Per the few details presently known, FreedomPop’s “free plan” brings with it 200 voice minutes, 500 text messages and 500 megabytes of data per month.
Paid plans, we’re told, start at $5 per month.
Stokols indicated that company has brought in hundreds of thousands of new customers since October when the mobile phone service commenced.
