Apple announced Thursday morning that the iPhone 3GS is being discontinued.

News comes just one day after the new iPhone 5 was released.

iOS 6, which will similarly be released this month, is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5.

“Launched in June of 2009,” says John Paczkowski of All Things D, “Apple’s iPhone 3GS has had a good long run. But with the iPhone 5 set to arrive in a little over a week, that run has come to an end.”

The iPhone 4 will become Apple’s new entry-level offering and has already replaced the iPhone 3GS in that spot in the Apple Store.

Preorders for the new iPhone 5 start tomorrow. On September 21st, they will ship in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.

As always Apple is providing limited devices for users to pick from, they are more concerned about providing better devices to users as the market of smart phone devices is providing more featured devices. It is true that Apple offers only few devices but they are one of the best in the market.
