iOS Making a Better ‘Impression’ on Mobile Advertising

iOS Making a Better 'Impression' on Mobile AdvertisingiOS can boast of generating 64 percent of impressions throughout the Velti mobile advertising platform in May of this year, which is a solid 5 percentage points higher than May of 2012.

On the other hand, Velti’s new State of Mobile Advertising Report indicates that Google’s Android can only lay claim to 36 percent of impressions in May 2013, down from 41 percent a year earlier.

Both Android and iOS saw an increase in impression share for larger ad units, namely iPhone’s 4.7% increase for Full Screen ads since last May.

Interestingly, however, while the number of Gaming apps continue to increase, Velti confirms that their overall impression share has dropped close to 15% year-over-year. Going the opposite direction, Entertainment, Books and Photo apps saw “significant increases.”
“Mobile users shifted smartphone usage since May 2012,” the report also notes, “from earlier in the week to later in the week, specifically Fridays, which saw a 2.8% increase.”
