Imagination Technologies, a U.K.-based semiconductor design company, confirmed on its website Thursday that it has reached a new deal with Apple.
Apple remains a chief investor in the company, owning close to 10% of Imagination Technologies.
Specifically, Imagination Technologies and Apple have extended their multi-year, multi-use license agreement. This provides Apple with critically important access to Imagination’s current and future PowerVR graphics and video IP cores.
We’re told that Apple will pay on-going license fees and pay Imagination Technologies royalty revenues on shipments of SoCs (Systems on Chip) incorporating Imagination’s IP.
Apple’s A7 chip used in Apple’s iPhone 5s, iPad Air, and iPad mini with Retina display uses the U.K.’s company’s PowerVR Series 6 graphics cores.
