With the purported monster storm of the century approaching landfall on the East Coast of the United States today, Google is taking a page from millions along the eastern seaboard and putting a hold on all other plans until this dangerous storm system passes.
Hurricane Sandy is, indeed, the reason Google is cancelling its Monday media event in New York City where several new smartphones running on the Android mobile operating system were expected to be unveiled.
“We are canceling our Monday morning event in New York due to Hurricane Sandy,” Google said in a statement this morning. “We will let you know our plans as soon as we know more.”
Ironically, it was also last October when Google halted plans to reveal a new product on the heels of Steve Jobs’ sudden passing. The internet search giant felt it was inappropriate to roll out the red carpet for a new iPhone competitor just as the world was mourning the loss of Apple’s creator.
MMW will keep you posted on Google’s plans in the coming days. For now, we join Google and others in hoping for a safe and speedy end to the approaching monster storm.
