This year, HBO Go could become a hotter commodity among sports fans. According to the premium cable network, original TV shows and movies may soon be in the company of livestreaming sports.

HBO Sports president Ken Hershman says he and his team are fiddling with idea of bringing livestreaming sporting events to HBO Go in 2013.

HBO is known for providing excellent sports commentary and for its coverage of boxing via its After Dark series, both of which are available on HBO Go after they air on the TV channel. If true, livestreaming sports programming would go a long way towards getting people to spend big bucks on a stand-alone HBO Go plan.

According to a report Friday morning from VentureBeat, HBO chief executive Richard Plepler recently theorized that the company would eventually offer its HBO Go service as part of “a bundled plan that included a broadband Internet subscription.”

Given the enormous popularity of HBO Go to date, it will come as no surprise if the executives behind the scenes do everything in their power to deliver an even bigger punch to this emerging entertainment platform.
