Groupon Wants No Part of Donald Trump’s Media Shenanigans

Not everyone wants to have their company branded alongside Donald Trump’s billion-dollar image.

Local deal-of-the-day giant Groupon is high-tailing their mobile platform far from Donald Trump’s hair, presidential aspirations, and general media shenanigans.

Groupon has come forward with a clear statement of intention regarding the Trump brand.

The message? Groupon isn’t going to buy ads that involve Trump in any capacity, including the real estate mogul’s hot reality TV series on NBC, The Celebrity Apprentice.

Groupon claims that Trump is “in the middle of some political criticism at the moment” and wants no part of anything Trump-related.

Groupon says it accidentally advertised on Trump’s show’s website when it purchased ads on

“Groupon has never been a sponsor of The Apprentice on TV or on the web,” the company admitted. “We invest heavily in online advertising through networks that place ads on a rolling basis, meaning that we know one will appear on but not specifically which page. We know that some advertising appeared on the Apprentice home page a few weeks ago.”

“It’s the same reason we don’t run deals on guns or abortion…this isn’t a political statement, it’s avoiding intentionally upsetting a segment of our customers,” Groupon concluded.
