No, you’re not seeing duplicate headlines around the web today, Groupon has acquired another company – about ten minutes after its last acquisition of mobile startup, Hyperpublic.
In case you haven’t noticed, Groupon is hungry for acquisitions these days. That much is clear from the freshly announced purchase of Kima Labs by the social commerce giant.
If you’re unfamiliar with Kima Labs, its a relatively new outfit that developed some hot properties in the mobile space, including barcode reader app “Barcode Hero” and “TapBuy,” a popular mobile payment solution.
For now, Groupon isn’t saying much of its latest purchase. The only reason we know it happened is because Kima Labs confirmed the acquisition on the official Barcode Hero website.
“We’re looking forward to jumping in and focusing our efforts there, but in order to do that, we’ll be shutting down Barcode Hero,” the company said. “The Barcode Hero iPhone app and web site will be unavailable after Monday, February 20. Your Barcode Hero data will be available for you to download now through March 16.”
