Google announced on Wednesday during the keynote address at its I/O conference that there have now been more than 900 million Android activations.
“People are adopting these devices at an amazing pace,” Google SVP of Chrome and Android Sundar Pichai revealed. “When you look at all of these computing devices, it’s a multi-screen world … they have sensors, they can look, they can feel.”
That’s a significant jump from 400 million one year ago and 100 million two years ago.
When it comes to market share, Android is still the No. 1 operating system for smartphones, leapfrogging Apple in recent years and not looking back.
In the first quarter of 2013, in fact, even Android-powered tablets gained a market share lead on Apple’s iPad for the first time, IDC data shows.
