On Friday morning, the Wall Street Journal confirmed that Google is losing one of its all-time greatest innovators.
Andy Rubin, the former frontman of Google’’s Android mobile business and the current head of its robotics aspirations, is set to depart the online search behemoth.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Rubin is “starting an incubator for startups interested in building technology hardware products.”
Google, of course, is trying to shake off the loss and affirm to investors and market watchers alike that Google will still be focused on robotics.
This morning’s report notes that James Kuffner, a research scientist at Google who is already a member of the robotics outfit, has been tapped to replace the departing Rubin.
“I want to wish Andy all the best with what’s next,” Google CEO Larry Page is quoted by the WSJ. “With Android he created something truly remarkable — with a billion-plus happy users. Thank you.”
