Google I/O: Android Reaches 1 Billion Active Users

Google IO Android Reaches 1 Billion Active UsersIt was, without question, one of the biggest bombshells dropped at Google I/O this week.

It wasn’t the announcement of a new product or service, but rather a fact that speaks to the growth of Google’s little green robot.

Google’s senior VP for Android and Chrome, Sundar Pichai, revealed that Android is still seeing a massive influx of new daily activations. The cumulative impact of this growth has resulted in a global community of active Android users that numbers one billion strong.

Put differently, some one billion people now engage with the Android platform within a 30-day period.

“All that growth has helped boost usage,” explains Don Reisinger of CNET, citing data from Pichai. “Google says 20 billion text messages are sent each day from Android devices and 93 million selfies are taken on a daily basis. The company’s Android phones are checked 100 billion times each day.”
