Google Glass Won’t Be Home for Christmas

Unfortunately for consumers hoping that Google Glass would arrive in time to land beneath their Christmas trees this holiday season, Google chairman Eric Schmidt is proving to be the Grinch that stole Christmas.

Regrettably, Google Glass is “probably a year-ish away.” In other words, 2014 is all but certainly the earliest we will see the next big thing in personal, wearable computer technology.

Speaking on the BBC Radio’s “World at One,“ Schmidt tells interviewer Martha Kearney on Monday that the launch of Google Glass isn’t as imminent as some on the blogosphere have hinted or hoped.

“There will be thousands of [Google Glass] in use by developers over the next months, and then based on their feedback, we’ll make some product changes, and it’s probably a year-ish away,” Schmidt says.

Sad but true, Google Glass will only be available this year to a select few within the development community.

A sleek technology designed for the human face, Google Glass delivers an unprecedented augmented reality experience that will undoubtedly have profound implications on how we interact with the world around us.

Although the mass-market introduction won’t take place as early as hoped, we already know that Glass makes it possible for users to record and share photos, obtain directions through voice control, participate in Google+ hangouts, view language translations, and more.

Is it 2014 yet?
