Google and Forbes are rolling out mobile recommendations powered by Google+, with Forbes as the launch partner.
That’s the official announcement from Forbes, writes Andrea Spiegel of the venerable publication.
The new content recommendation engine is meant to enable mobile websites to more widely deepen reader engagement and user loyalty.
“So when Google called, it was serendipitous timing,” Spiegel says. “We are working on the same challenge, and it seemed like a good opportunity to learn from one another. After sorting out our dev resources and timing, we set out to implement a white-list test.”
Thirty percent of Forbes traffic now comes from mobile. Mobile usage for social sites continues to show explosive growth. LinkedIn recently told investors that mobile usage fueled their 63% pageview increase year over year. In quarterly results released earlier this month, Facebook announced 751 million mobile monthly active users, up 54% from the previous year.
“It was a quick process of enabling the Mobile Recommendations feature in Forbes’ Google+ Page dashboard, and changing some JavaScript on the mobile pages,” adds Roger Theriault, Forbes Director of Technical Product Management. ”In our case we replaced the plusone.js code snippet we were already using for the +1 button with a new one provided by the Page settings.”
