According to the latest data from Nielsen, the mobile realm is still largely dominated by the American teenager, particularly in terms of mobile gaming and email usage.
“Young people around the world love their mobile phones,” the Nielsen report reads, “but they use them in vastly different ways.”
While mobile internet usage is highest among youths in China (a whopping 73% of Chinese mobile youth ages 15-24 reported using the mobile internet in the previous 30 days), US teenagers continue to lead the charge on mobile email usage and game downloads.
Of the 15-24 age category, 48% of US youth and 46% of UK youth report using the mobile internet during the previous month.
Less than 25% of young people in other European countries reported any mobile internet usage in the preceding30 days.
With regard to SMS and MMS messaging, females lead the pack in most markets, with only a few prominent exceptions. Indian males, for example, are twice as likely as their female counterparts to use text messaging. According to the report, they are also four times more likely to use picture messaging.
Although China and Saudi Arabia also skew male with regard to messaging, it’s by a much more narrow margin.
