Apple’s rumored iPad mini will likely be a strong seller, particularly in response to its smaller frame and smaller price tag. But will the iPad mini reduce iPad sales in the process?
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster thinks that Apple can’t really lose regardless of what transpires. The analyst (as quoted by TodaysiPhone.com) predicts that the “cannibalization rate” will be 20% – Apple will give up one iPad sale for every five iPad mini sales.
Assuming the iPad mini is released on November 2, Apple will sell a minimum of 5 million of the smaller iPads in the December quarter, five times more the predicted one million ‘regular’ iPads to be sold in the same amount of time.
With the iPad mini, Munster estimates that Apple will probably sell as many as 25 million iPads in the final quarter of 2012.
Apple is expected to officially unveil the iPad mini next Tuesday, October 23rd at a media event in California.
