Fox Mobile Group placed the spotlight squarely on Bitbop this week at International CTIA Wireless 2010. Bitbop is a wireless subscription service (now in beta) that aims to make a smartphone the ultimate “entertainment portal.”
According to the official word at its introduction, Bitbop’s sophisticated platform enables users to watch premium video content conveniently from their mobile device at a standard monthly subscription rate of $9.99.
FMG chief marketing officer Chris Hoerenz describes Bitbop as “an on demand subscription-based service that delivers on the promise of making the smartphone an easy-to-use entertainment device for television programs and movies.”
Essentially, the new service will let subscribers enjoy an on-demand style experience. That is, users can browse content from a searchable menu of full-length television programs for streaming or temporary download. Also provided for is the ability to create a personal queue of viewing choices available across the BlackBerry Bold 9000, Bold 9700, Curve 8900 and Tour 9630 smartphones.
Bitbop’s Hulu-style service, however, is advertised to eventually work on “most advanced technology handsets with nearly every major telecommunication carrier.”
“We are able to give mobile audiences the wide range of content they want, when and where they want it, with all the customer friendly features they expect,” says Hoerenz.
