Foursquare Testing New “Add To Foursquare” Button For Web Content

justinmontgomery13 years ago02 mins

Foursquare has been on a roll lately with announcements regarding new features the company is testing to either extend functionality or set itself up for future monetization.

TechCrunch is reporting a new “add to Foursquare” button the company is testing with the Wall Street Journal to add a direct route for users to add venues to their Foursquare to-do list.  The move would allow content providers to provide one-click access to Foursquare integration on venue-specific Web content, and likely mobile Web content as well.

For testing on the WSJ, there will also be a tip written by a WSJ editor that gets populated on on user’s Foursquare page when the new button is clicked.  That tip will contain a link back to the article about the venue, so it will drive traffic back to WSJ in addition to the venue being added to the user’s to-do list.

This type of integration would be a win-win-win, as the content owner could drive traffic back to their original content, Foursquare adds deeper engagement with its users and end-users gain a quick and easy way to add locations to their to-do list.  It seems like an excellent idea, though there will obviously be a few kinks to work out.

Though the new buttons are only showing on the WSJ for now, the company noted that “we’re definitely interested in finding a way to scale the feature in the future so other brands can take advantage of it.”
