Facebook Vows Mobile Business Overhaul as Q2 Earnings Underwhelm Wall Street

On Thursday, Facebook once again failed to wow Wall Street as the social networking company reported financial results for the second quarter, which ended June 30, 2012.

“Our goal is to help every person stay connected and every product they use be a great social experience,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO. “That’s why we’re so focused on investing in our priorities of mobile, platform and social ads to help people have these experiences with their friends.”

For the time being, however, Facebook says that its mobile users are growing faster in number than the ads on its mobile platform.

“On average mobile users are around 20 percent more likely to use Facebook on any given day,” Zuckerberg said. “So mobile not only gives us the potential to connect more people with our services and also gives us the ability to provide more value and more deeply engaging experience.”

All told, revenue grew 32 percent to $1.18 billion from $895 million a year ago. Adjusted earnings of $295 million matched Wall Street’s expectations.

Facebook also revealed Thursday that it has 955 million active monthly users as of June 30th, 2012.
