Facebook ‘Pokes’ The World to Tease Major Announcement July 6th

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg rarely hypes anything that isn’t a big deal. That being said, Zuckerberg is promising an announcement next week that is “awesome.” On Friday morning, word surfaced that invitations to the company’s media event scheduled for next Wednesday, July 6th have begun turning up in select mailboxes.

According to the contents of the invite, the event in question will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am in Facebook’s Palo Alto office, notes a report from Reuters.

So what is the big announcement all about? There’s no shortage of rumors on that front.

The most likely roll-outs would be the introduction of Facebook’s long-await iPad app or the supposed groundbreaking mobile photo app the company has been working on for an incredibly long period of time.

Facebook, the world’s largest Internet social network with more than 500 million users, is increasingly challenging established online companies like Google Inc and Yahoo Inc for consumers’ time online and for advertising dollars. According to the company, people that use Facebook on mobile devices are twice as active on the service than users on PCs.

A Facebook spokesman has universally denied to all media outlets any further details about Zuckerberg’s intriguing comments or the forthcoming announcement.
