Facebook Is About to ‘Flip’ Out

michael10 years ago02 mins

According to The Wall Street Journal, Facebook’s mobile first strategy could involve trying to become a newspaper for mobile devices.

Insider details gleaned by The Wall Street Journal suggest that the social network has been quietly working on a service that may be called Reader.

Reader displays content from Facebook users and publishers in a new visual format tailored for mobile devices, the report in Sunday’s WSJ details.

If the information we’ve become privy to is, indeed, accurate then we can confidently deduce that Facebook’s Reader has been in development for more than a year now.

The project… is designed to showcase news content in particular. Recent versions of Reader resemble Flipboard Inc., a smartphone and tablet app that aggregates stories from multiple sources and lets users swipe to flip through articles, said the people with knowledge of the project.

So, will Facebook clone Flipboard to produce a rival and superior solution of its own?

According to Mark Zuckerberg by his own admission, he wants Facebook to be “the best personalized newspaper in the world.”
