Facebook’s millions of iPhone and iPad users have reason to celebrate today. On Thursday, the social networking giant finally rolled out a desperately needed refresh of its embattled iOS app.
Widely criticized for being slow and frequently crashing, the new and improved Facebook app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch (all of which must run 4.3 or later to be compatible) is definitely built for speed.
The first wave of user reactions indicates that Facebook has succeeded in delivering an improved mobile experience.
“We’ve rebuilt the app so it’s faster and easier to use,” Facebook says of version 5.0, boasting of such tweaks as:
- Scrolling through news feed is faster than ever
- New banner lets you tap to quickly see more stories – no need to refresh
- Photos open fast and close with one downward swipe
- Instant access to your notifications
