Facebook Dumps Physical Goods to Emphasize Digital

michael10 years ago03 mins

Facebook Dumps Physical Goods to Emphasize DigitalFacebook is completely revamping it Gifts commerce platform, the first step of which is removing sales of physical items.

In their place will be greater focus on virtual goods and digital-only gifts.

“Since launching Gifts in December last year, roughly 80 percent of gifts have been gift cards. So, we’re now adding more digital codes and making the Facebook Card redeemable at more merchants,” a Facebook rep. was quoted Monday. “As a part of this shift in focus to Facebook Card and digital codes, we’re also phasing out physical gifts.”

As MMW has reported in recent weeks, Facebook is changing business as usual in several key ways. In fact, Mark Zuckerberg and company are rumored to testing a mobile payment and ecommerce solution.

But if Facebook aggressively delves into the mcommerce and ecommerce space, what will be most important? Peace of mind for consumers when it comes to the security of inputting their payment information.

It is, without question, essential for businesses that run ecommerce sites to know that their credit card processing company is reliable, compliant with regulations, and up to date with industry leading safeguards, warn experts in the field.

“A company that has been in business for many years is a good indicator that they have been conducting business in a reputable manner,” says North American Bancard, a payments solution provider well known for its security prowess. According to NAB, customers that trust you will open their wallets to you time and time again.

For Facebook, one of the biggest challenges will be to convince online shoppers that their platform is, indeed, safe and reliable.
