A week hasn’t passed since the company’s IPO where Facebook hasn’t either acquired another company or been rumored to do so.
On Tuesday, news widely came to light that the social networking giant has acquired Face.com, an impressive developer of facial recognition technologies.
Face.com is behind the popular iOS camera app Klik. Although financial terms were not confirmed by either party, it is estimated that Facebook didn’t pay over $60 million for the company, which could be vital in helping the way Facebook users tag photos via mobile devices.
“Our mission is and has always been to find new and exciting ways to make face recognition a fun, engaging part of people’s lives, and incorporate remarkable technology into everyday consumer products,” a representative for Face.com announced on the company’s website.
“Thank you to all of our supporters, our amazing dev community, to our employees and to our friends and family who have seen us through many long days and longer nights,” the post concludes. “The next steps are going to be exciting for all of us.”
