News surfaced Thursday that Facebook has acquired the developers behind Moves, an iPhone app that lets users create an “activity diary,” which is comparable to fitness tracking apps that similarly monitor activity levels.
“Today, we’re delighted to announce that Facebook has acquired our company and the Moves app,” those behind Moves stated in a note posted on their website.
“Since we launched Moves,” the statement continued, “we’ve been focused on running a simple and clean activity diary that millions of people have enjoyed using. Now, we’re joining Facebook’s talented team to work on building and improving their products and services with a shared mission of supporting simple, efficient tools for more than a billion people.”
Although Facebook hasn’t spoken publicly about the acquisition, some see the news as an indication of Facebook’s growing interest in the mHealth and possibly even the wearable tech category of app and products.
