The people behind Evernote, a suite of software and services designed for notetaking and archiving, have announced their acquisition of popular image annotation application Skitch.
The announcement marks Evernote’s first acquisition and first major expansion in its set of products aimed at helping individuals “capture their memories, ideas and experiences.”
According to details provided with today’s announcement, Skitch co-founders Cris Pearson and Keith Lang will come on board Evernote to help lead Skitch development and growth.
In addition to the acquisition, Evernote also announced the launch of Skitch for Android, the first Skitch mobile application.
“As Evernote has evolved over the past several years, we’ve seen a tremendous growth in the types of things our users wish to capture and remember. Image annotation, sketching and sharing have been among our most requested features,” says Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote. “We’re excited to have Skitch join the Evernote family. Not only will we be able to significantly broaden the reach of their product, but we will also greatly improve our own capabilities. This is a huge step forward for our company.”
