Digital iPad Publication ‘The Daily’ Sees Another Major Delay

It’s deja vu all over again.

On Friday, it was reported that Apple and News Corp. have once again delayed the launch of The Daily, a digital newspaper that will provide exclusive content to Apple’s iPad.

The latest excuse given is that complications remain with a new subscription service model that Apple is preparing for those will bring their digital publications to the touchscreen tablet.

According to The Wall Street Journal’s All Things Digital contributor Peter Kafka:

A PR rep from News Corp., which also owns this Web site, confirmed the delay, but wouldn’t comment further. Apple declined to comment.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs and News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch had been scheduled to formally introduce the venture January 19th in San Francisco.

Known as “The Daily,” Murdoch’s iPad publication has been the talk of the media world since last summer, and – according to Reuters – Murdoch has even dubbed it is ‘No. 1 most exciting project.’ The elaborate but secretive project has been taking shape at the company’s Manhattan headquarters, but it will also have staffers in Los Angeles.

Murdoch is believed to have invested upwards of $30 million in the venture, about which very few key details are known. Sources close to the project have indicated that The Daily will cost $0.99 cents per day and feature the work of accomplished, prominent journalists, including reporters and columnists who previously worked for The New Yorker, the Daily Beast, Forbes, AOL and Politico.
