They’re likely playing hail to the chief around the offices of PayPal Friday, as the company celebrates the installation of a new president.
Last night, eBay Inc. CEO John Donahue confirmed his selection of David Marcus for president of the eBay-owned PayPal.
“I’ve picked David Marcus as the new president of PayPal and I couldn’t be more thrilled,” Donahue wrote on the official PayPal blog. “David’s just the right leader for PayPal. For more than 15 years, he’s been a successful technology entrepreneur with a passion for great products that both engage and delight customers.”
Privately, Marcus is a said to be a bright, innovative, hard worker who will likely do wonders to advance some of his company’s latest efforts to expand PayPal’s footprint across numerous market segments.
A professed believer in the power of all things mobile, Marcus will now oversee all of PayPal’s biggest “outside of the box” endeavors, like the company’s mobile wallet services freshly installed at 2,000 Home Depot stores throughout the U.S.
“Please join me in congratulating David as he takes the lead at PayPal,” Donahue concluded in his post. “Together with the PayPal executive team and the entire eBay Inc. family, we’re working to change the way the world shops and pays.”
