On Friday, comScore released new data from the comScore MobiLens service, which chronicles key trends in the U.S. smartphone industry.

The latest report covers the three month average period ending May 2013.

Apple ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer with 39 percent OEM market share, while Google Android led as the #1 smartphone platform with 52 percent platform market share.
The biggest takeaway from the new comScore report is the impressive continuation in growth of the U.S. smartphone audience.

141 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (59 percent mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in May.

That’s up 6 percent just since February 2013.

Apple was the top OEM with 39.2 percent of U.S. smartphone subscribers. Samsung ranked second with a 23 percent market share. HTC was third with 8.7 percent, followed by Motorola with 7.8 percent and LG with 6.7 percent.
