In a move that is certain to lighten the financial burdens of Internet access to families struggling in today’s difficult economy, Comcast has announced a new plan to serve up discounted Internet service as well as computers to what the company calls “low-income” families.
Dubbed Internet Essentials, Comcast reveals on the company’s official blog that the program will provide “low-cost access to the Internet and affordable computers as well as digital literacy training to families with children who are eligible to receive free lunches under the National School Lunch Program.”

Comcast says that the discounted package ($9.95 per month) still delivers download speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 384 Kbps.
