Citi Debuts New Mobile Payment Solution

Financial titan Citigroup revealed on Wednesday its new mobile payments solution dubbed CitiDirect BE Mobile – a mobile browser-based application allowing clients to receive notifications and authorize payments using their mobile phones.

Upon launch, CitiDirect BE Mobile is available to more than 50,000 clients and 300,000 users worldwide.

CitiDirect BE Mobile brings core transaction functionality, available with Citi’s online banking platform, CitiDirect Online Banking, directly to clients’ mobile phones. With CitiDirect BE Mobile, clients can receive SMS alerts that complement email and fax notifications; and authorize payments pending approval in every payment type supported by the online banking platform.

According to Citi, the platform is designed to work with the world’s leading smartphones and mobile devices, CitiDirect BE Mobile gives clients a “flexible, safe and easy to use solution that addresses the changing business landscape and allows them to transact business on the move.”

As of this writing, CitiDirect BE Mobile is live in 24 countries with a more comprehensive global roll out planned before the close of 2011.
