Breaking news out of Cupertino, California late Tuesday.
Apple retail VP Jerry McDougal has announced his resignation.
The departure is voluntary, amicable and not brought about by any other circumstances apart from the executive’s decision to spend more time with his family.
McDougal’s resignation, however, creates yet another headache for Apple. McDougal is believed to have been on a short list of potential candidates to replace John Browett who recently exited as Apple’s retail chief.
Last October, Apple announced that Browett would be leaving Apple and that a search for a new head of Retail has begun.
Browett had been in the position for less than a year.
Apple spokesman Steve Dowling says Apple’s VP of Finance Jim Bean will step in to help lead the division in McDougal’s absence.
“Retail has an incredibly strong network of leaders at the store and regional level, and they will continue the excellent work they’ve done over the past decade to revolutionize retailing with unique, innovative services and a focus on the customer that is second to none,” Dowling tells All Things D. “Jim Bean is moving to Retail to help support our store teams. Jim has been at Apple for 15 years and is a great leader who understands our culture and focus on customer service.”
