The bad news continues to pile up for BlackBerry.
On Wednesday, news came to light that RIM’s embattled smartphone has lost another key partner to Apple’s iPhone.
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is done with BlackBerry. And that means its 400 users of the BlackBerry are done too. They will all move to a government-issued iPhone 5.
And, unfortunately for RIM, it doesn’t sound like the decision was a difficult one to make. The agency says RIM BlackBerrys “have been failing both at inopportune times and at an unacceptable rate.”
The NTSB “requires effective, reliable and stable communication capabilities to carry out its primary investigative mission and to ensure employee safety in remote locations.”
And for the agency, that means the iPhone is apparently preferable to a BlackBerry.
“Already,” USA Today confirms, “far larger national-security departments and agencies — the Defense Department, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Transportation Security Administration — have shifted in the direction of iPhones.”
