It isn’t very often that BlackBerry generates a positive headline these days.
Between falling off the radar among popular smartphones to parent company RIM’s stock price woes, it’s been a rough few years for BlackBerry against a mobile landscape wholly dominated by iOS and Android in the United States.
But a milestone is still a milestone, and BlackBerry has something to celebrate.
BlackBerry smartphone and PlayBook users around the world have downloaded over three billion apps since BlackBerry App World launched!
That announcement came Monday morning from the BlackBerry Developer Blog.
And, in case you were wondering, three billion app downloads averages out to just north of 2.5 million downloads every day.
“Special thanks is due to the over 28,000 BlackBerry App World vendors and the BlackBerry App World storefront team,” the smartphone maker said today. “BlackBerry App World has continued to grow steadily with more than 90,000 applications now up for sale (we know other platforms use other metrics like submitted, or approved, but we prefer the more tangible ‘up for sale’).”
