This morning, Best Buy kicked off yet another weekend-long promotion designed to help spur trade-ins of older iPhones among iOS loyalists who may be inspired to upgrade to Apple’s current flagship iPhone 5.
Beginning today and lasting through the long holiday weekend, Best Buy is offering the iPhone 5 (16GB or 32GB) at a 50% discount for customers trading-in a functional iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S.
As we’ve seen in recent months, Best Buy is not the only electronics retailer where trade-ins are beginning to happen on a routine basis.
In addition to similar programs offered by Apple carrier partners AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon Communications, the iDevice maker itself is reportedly going to begin offering an in-store program that would let customers trade-in used iPhones for credit toward a new model.
Through it all, Apple is still expected to unveil the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C on September 10th. The rumor mill has already indicated this week that AT&T and T-Mobile retail employees are being told that vacation time is not permissible on or around September 20th, indicating that the new iPhones will officially launch that weekend.
