Throw another way to pay via mobile on top of the heaping pile of solutions that customers are being bombarded with.
But despite stellar competition in the space, the folks at Barclaycard may have a supreme solution to offer the masses.
On Thursday, Barclaycard announced the launch of Barclaycard PayTag, which bestows upon customers the chance to make payments with any mobile phone by simply affixing a Barclaycard PayTag to the back of their handset.
PayTag is free and available exclusively to Barclaycard Visa cardholders. Barclaycard presently serves more than 21 million customers across four continents.
“Today, we are offering the choice of mobile payments to millions of our customers at no additional cost to them,” says David Chan, CEO of Barclaycard Consumer Europe. “More than half of us say that the item we’re most lost without is our mobile phone[1], so we’re giving people the option of using them to make easy, convenient, everyday payments without the need to upgrade their current handset.”
The announcement comes as Visa predicts that the number of contactless point-of-sale terminals in the UK will rise by 50% to 150,000 this year.
